‘Modern-Day Slave Traders’: Hawley Demands Probe Into 85,000 ‘Lost’ Migrant Children

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) is demanding that the FBI investigate the exploitation of thousands of unaccompanied alien children (IUAC) who may have been brought into the United States via child smuggling operations.

According to data from US Customs and Border Protection, approximately 345,000 minors have crossed into the United States unaccompanied since President Joe Biden took office, while a report from the NY Times suggests that the Department of Health and Human Services has lost contact with 85,000 of these minors.

“The Biden Administration is morally responsible for their fate. The President lifted Title 42 restrictions on unaccompanied children in early 2021,” wrote Hawley in a Friday letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray. “Reporting reveals that HHS loosened vetting processes for sponsors and retaliated against whistleblowers who raised these concerns. As a result,thousands of children have been handed over to modern-day slave traders.“

Hawley also threw Biden under the bus, noting that under his watch, lost minors are often forced into factory work under harsh conditions, denied food and education, suffer sexual violence, and fear for their lives.

“In a country that claims to value the rule of law and the protection of children, this is unconscionable,” Hawley added.

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing in late March, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra denied knowledge of the 85,000 figure.

“I have never heard that number of 85,000, I don’t know where it comes from and … so I would say it doesn’t sound at all to be realistic, and what we do is we try and follow up as best we can with these kids,” he said, adding “Congress has given us certain authorities. Our authorities end when we have found a suitable sponsor to place that child with. We try and do some follow-up, but neither the child or the sponsor is actually obligated to follow up with us.”

In addition to urging the FBI to mount a “full-scale” effort to locate the missing children and bring to justice the criminals who are holding them in modern-day slavery, Hawley also demanded a probe into HHS and the Department of Homeland Security.

“The FBI must also investigate HHS and the Department of Homeland Security for their role in facilitating the exploitation of these children, in violation of the law,” Hawley wrote.

“The pervasive maltreatment of migrant children plainly violates both the Fair Labor Standards Act, which prohibits the abuse of underage workers, and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, which designates human trafficking offenses as federal crimes,” Hawley wrote.

On Wednesday, an HHS whistleblower told officials that unaccompanied children have been “suffering in the shadows” of the US immigration system for almost a decade.

“I have to confess I knew nothing about their suffering until 2021 when I volunteered to help the Biden administration with the crisis at the southern border as part of operation Artemis,” said Tara Lee Rodas, who appeared as a witness at “The Biden Border Crisis: Exploitation of Unaccompanied Alien Children” hearing held by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.

Rodas said she was deployed to help HHS’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) reunite UACs with adult sponsors in the United States.

“I thought I was going to help place children in loving homes. Instead, I discovered that children are being trafficked through a sophisticated network that begins with recruiting in home country, smuggling to the U.S. border, and ends when ORR delivers a child to a sponsor—some sponsors are criminals and traffickers and members of transnational criminal organizations, some sponsors view children as commodities and assets to be used for earning income.”

In some cases, Rodas says she witnessed adult sponsors who were allowed to take in “10, 20, 30 and 40 children” without any concerns from HHS.

“I saw sponsors trying to simultaneously sponsor children from multiple ORR sites at one time. I saw sponsors using multiple addresses to obtain sponsorships of children, and I saw numerous cases of children in debt bondage—and the child knew they had to stay with the sponsor until the debt was paid,” she said.

The next day, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) wrote to Becerra and demanded answers.

“I am deeply concerned regarding the recent reports that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has mishandled unaccompanied migrant children by placing them with unvetted sponsors, leading to their exploitation and forced labor,” she wrote.

Another once-quiet German city is now turning into a hotspot for crime, warns the city’s mayor

Saxony is generally considered to have some of the lowest migrant numbers in Germany, and for years, commentators and newspapers made a point of lambasting the region’s anti-immigrant sentiment when there were few living there.

Now, the mayor of Plauen is desperate as crime and violence soar in his city due to migrants dominating the city center, harassing pedestrians and committing serious crimes, including a case of attempted manslaughter.

Mayor Steffen Zenner (CDU) says there are “repeated ugly scenes of violence and physical altercations in the middle of our city center.” 

He told the Bild newspaper that “the violence is mainly caused by migrants,” but emphasizes “that the majority of migrants living in Plauen abide by law and order.”

The first incident the mayor notes was on April 29 involving a large-scale brawl at Postplatz, which shocked those in the downtown area. Police say that Iraqi, Romanian and Syrian youths were involved, with an investigation opened into dangerous bodily harm.

Another scene of violence occurred the following week, involving a physical altercation between North Africans, Kurds and Arabs, this time in a dance hall in Plauen. The following day, the feuding parties went to settle the conflict at Postplatz, which saw a Syrian stab an Iraqi. The knife attack was nearly deadly, with emergency services barely able to save the man’s life.

In the city of 65,000, locals are increasingly avoiding the city center, according to Bild. Businesses are complaining that their sales are falling due to the violence, and employees are using back exits to avoid the crowds of migrants occupying the center. Bild now describes the area as a “no-go zone” for many living and working there.

Mayor Zenner is now calling for “upper limits on immigration, as well as European and national border security measures that are transnational and concerted.” The mayor says that 40 percent of the non-Ukrainian migrants in the city have deportation orders, but they are not being removed. Germany is well known for its lower deportation rate, even for convicted migrants. As Remix News reported in 2021, migrants with deportation orders committed 2,500 crimes in Saxony in 2020. 

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group in Saxony says the CDU, to which Zenner belongs, is part of the problem. Saxon Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) has repeatedly failed to deal with the crisis, according to the AfD.

Other German cities are facing similar problems involving public disorder and crime from Germany’s growing immigrant population, including the “green” university city of Freiburg, which has seen riots and scenes of violenceover the last year.

Northern U.S. Border Encounters With Illegals More Than Double In 7 Months

Encounters with undocumented illegal migrants have more than doubled in the past seven months on the NORTHERN U.S. border, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.

The figures show that Border Patrol agents recorded 4,827 migrant encounters between October 2022 and April along the U.S.-Canadian border.

Through the entire fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol along the northern border encountered 2,238 illegals.

The data also shows that of the close to 5000 who have crossed around half were from Mexico. They flew to Canada (no visa required) and then walked across the border there.

Sean Walsh, National Border Patrol Council President for the Swanton sector in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire has noted “The northern border is less secure than it ever has been and the security speaks for itself.”

“If we’re losing twelve times the amount of people just in this fiscal year alone than in the whole last year, the cartels and criminal organizations have taken advantage and exploited the border and this administration’s policies or lack of policies to address security,” Walsh added.

In March, CBP transferred agents from the southern border to the Swanton section of the northern border in an attempt to deal with the increased numbers.

    Chairman Of Homeland Security Committee: Mayorkas Has “Intentionally Violated” Law And “Lied To Congress Under Oath”

    GOP Congressman Mark Green, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, has blasted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for lying about the security of the border and violating the law as record numbers of illegal immigrants crossed the border last week.

    Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss the 83,000 crossings just last week alone, and Mayorkas’ assertion that the numbers have dropped, Rep. Green noted “What the secretary failed to say is that this week has seen more crossings than any time, any week in our history. Yes, there was some anticipation, and so people started coming across at higher numbers, in fact, record-breaking numbers, at the first part of the week.”

    “But in the latter part of the week, a judge ruled that they can’t do their plan of just releasing without a court date, which Secretary Mayorkas has said on the news was a bad idea. But that court ruling said he can’t do that. The drug cartels have responded, and the numbers have fallen off for a couple of days,” Green explained.

    “But he admitted just moments ago that they can’t predict the peak,” The Congressman continued, adding “CBP said 40 percent increase is expected with Title 42 gone.”

    Green laid out the stark numbers, urging “That’s another nine million people in two years. I mean, they have already let 5.04 million encounters and 1.5 million got-aways as they have tried to manage border security and not secure our border.”

    Green vowed to hold Mayorkas responsible, saying he knows “for a fact he lied to Congress under oath,” and adding “We’re going to look into his dereliction of duty, the laws he’s intentionally violated and not followed.”

    “His job is to execute the laws, not write them or make them up himself,” Green continued, adding the the DHS head’s “interim final rule to just speed people into the country is an excellent example of them just making up the laws, which we are the ones, we write the laws in Congress. He executes the laws, right, as the executive branch.”

    “We will show the human cost of this open border, fentanyl mothers, Angel Moms, that little baby in Florida crawling around on a VRBO that encountered fentanyl and died,” Green further urged, asserting that “every American is at risk with this open border. I would be negligent in my job not to look into this guy’s performance.”

    Meanwhile, Joe Biden gloated to reporters that the border situation is “Much better than you all expected.”

    Texas Senator Ted Cruz blasted Biden, repeating his charge that the collapse of the border is intentional in order to stoke a “full on invasion”.

    “This is a full on invasion. It is a crisis. And the Biden administration is cheering it on … they want this to happen,” Cruz told Fox News, adding, “They want more people to come in, and they don’t care about the body bags that are piling up.”

    “They don’t care about the women being sexually assaulted,” Cruz continued, adding “They don’t care about the children being brutalized. They don’t care about the over 100,000 drug overdoses that we had last year, two thirds of which was from Chinese fentanyl coming across the southern border.”
