Federal Data Quietly Reveals 100 Terror Suspects Caught At Southern Border

Quadruple the previous 5 years combined

Newly published federal data reveals that close to a hundred individuals listed on the FBI terror watchlist have been apprehended at the Southern border in the last year, a record high and a huge uptick in recent months.

The Customs and Border Protection agency data, released without fanfare on Friday night, reveals that so far this year 98 individuals apprehended attempting to get into the U.S. at the southern border were suspected terrorists or closely affiliated with terrorist organizations.

The figure has jumped from just 27 in early April.

In September alone, 20 terror suspects were arrested on the border, up from 12 in August.

The data was highlighted by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin in a report this week, as he noted that the figure is almost four times the previous five years combined:

Previous data from 2019 indicated that zero terror suspects had been encountered at the border.

As Melugin previously highlighted, CBP sources say there have been more than half a million ‘gotaways’ this year alone (that figure is now close to 600,000), and close to a million since the beginning of last year, begging the question how many of them were on the terror watchlist and are now roaming around the country freely?

The number of migrants encountered at the border now stands at almost 2.4 million for the year, with over 227,000 in September alone.

There were also a record number of deaths.

Responding to the latest data release, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), the top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said in a statement Monday “Our adversaries know they can enter our country through our failed border.”

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), the top Republican on the Senate homeland security appropriations subcommittee, added that the Border Patrol is “overrun” and the “consequences of these lax enforcement actions should concern every single American.”

In addition, the new data shows that Feds seized close to 15 thousand pounds of fentanyl from smugglers attempting to get it across the border, seven times as much compared to five years ago.

Biden officials continue to claim the border is secure.

Video: Ted Cruz Eviscerates DHS Secretary For STILL Refusing To Admit There Is Border Crisis

“Your refusal to do your job is revolting.”

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday, Senator Ted Cruz grilled Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and described his refusal to answer questions on the border crisis as “disgraceful.”

Cruz asked Mayorkas if he thinks there is currently a crisis at the border, with Mayorkas only responding that there is “a very significant challenge” and refusing to answer with a “yes” or “no.”

Cruz noted that Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz has repeatedly testified that there is a crisis, and asked Mayorkas to “speak with the same clarity.”

“That’s how someone answers a question and does their job,” Cruz asserted, adding “You’re being a politician, misleading the American people.”

The Senator went on to describe how migrant deaths, child assaults and rapes have risen significantly since Mayorkas took office

“The men and women of the Border Patrol, they’ve never had a political leader undermine them,” Cruz declared, telling Mayorkas that he should resign.

“They despise you, Mr. Secretary, because you’re willing to let children be raped to follow political orders. This is a crisis, it’s disgrace, and you won’t even admit this human tragedy is a crisis,” Cruz blasted.

Mayorkas called Cruz’s comments “revolting,” prompting Cruz to respond, “Your refusal to do your job is revolting.”

    Watch:

Elsewhere during the hearing, Senator Josh Hawley slammed Mayorkas for assisting with and incentivising illegal entry into the U.S., noting that “It’s like a concierge service for illegal immigrants.”

“Rather than building a wall, Mr. Secretary, you have built Ticketmaster for illegal immigrants,” Hawley proclaimed.

CBP Data: 16 Terrorists On FBI Watchlist Crossed Southern Border In February Alone

    How many got away?

Fresh data from Customs and Border Protection has revealed that sixteen people matched to the FBI’s terrorist watchlist were apprehended by Border Patrol agents in February alone.

As reported by Fox News, the total number of individuals on the watchlist found to be attempting to enter the country so far this fiscal year is now 69.

CBP expects the trend to continue, and to smash last fiscal year’s record 98 encounters.

Between FY17 and FY20 there were only 8 of these terror watchlist arrests, and in 2021 only 15.

When border the Southern and Northern borders are taken into account, FY23 has seen 214 people in the Terrorist Screening Database stopped by CBP agents to date. Last year, the total was 380, yet the year before that there were only 157 encounters.

The Department of Homeland Security says the border is secure and claims that the biggest terror threat the U.S. faces is ‘domestic extremists’ radicalised by “false narratives propagated on online platforms.”

The latest data shows that on the whole, CBP apprehended 128,877 people who crossed the border illegally in January and another 128,913 in February.

Those figures are down from December when a record amount of illegal crossings were recorded, as 251,487 illegal immigrants crossed, marking the highest monthly total in history. A total of 17 individuals on the terrorism watchlist were apprehended.

Last week, during testimony before the House, Border Patrol chief Raúl Ortiz contradicted Biden administration officials by stating that there is a full on crisis on the southern border, urging that it is not secure, and calling for a wall to be built.

Ortiz noted that there have already been approximately 385,000 known gotaways at the border since fiscal year 2023 began on Oct 1. That is in addition to 600,000 in FY’22, and 390,000 in FY’21. There have been approximately 1.4 million gotaways since start of FY’21.
