Ukraine Claims Dubious Russian Attack on Nuclear Plant in Bid to Lobby For NATO No Fly Zone
IAEA fact checks false claim about radiation leak.

Published
4 months agoon

The Ukrainian government said they had detected “elevated levels of radiation” after claiming Russia deliberately attacked a nuclear plant, calling for NATO to impose a no fly zone, but IAEA officials later clarified that no leak had been detected.
The entire incident appears to possibly have been yet another contrived story given claims that the attack took place at a nearby location, along with assertions that the Ukrainians fired first.
During an “emotional” speech on Thursday night, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Russian forces had deliberately attacked the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the city of Energodar in an attempt to cause a Chernobyl-style “global catastrophe.”
“Right now, Russian tanks are firing upon nuclear units,” Zelensky said. “These are tanks equipped with thermal imagers. That is, they know where they are shooting, they have been preparing for this!”
“I appeal to all Ukrainians, to all Europeans. To all people who know the word ‘Chernobyl.’ Who know how many grief and casualties the explosion at the nuclear power plant caused. It was a global catastrophe. Hundreds of thousands of people struggled with its consequences. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated. Russia wants to do it again. And already repeats. But six times more!”
“Europeans! Wake up, please! Speak to your politicians! Russian troops are firing upon the nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the city of Energodar. There are six power units. Six! One power unit exploded in Chernobyl,” Zelensky said.
“The Russian military must be stopped immediately! Shout to your politicians. Ukraine has 15 nuclear units. If there is an explosion, it is the end of everything. The end of Europe. This is the evacuation of Europe. Only immediate European action can stop Russian troops. Do not allow the death of Europe from the catastrophe at the nuclear power plant!”
The Ukrainian government then claimed they had detected “elevated levels of radiation” around the plant and demanded a NATO no fly zone be imposed, something that would almost certainly cause World War III.
A government official tells The Associated Press elevated levels of radiation are being detected near the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which provides about 25% of the country’s power generation.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called on the West to close the skies over the country’s nuclear plants as fighting intensified. “It is a question of the security of the whole world!” he said.

However, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the White House later confirmed that no nuclear leak had taken place.
#Ukraine regulator tells IAEA there has been no change reported in #radiation levels at the #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant site.
— IAEA – International Atomic Energy Agency (@iaeaorg) March 4, 2022
Two White House officials say their latest information shows no indications of elevated levels of radiation at the Zaporizhzhia complex. The White House is continuing to monitor it closely following President Biden’s call with Zelensky.

In addition, according to Ukraine’s emergency service, the fire at the plant “was outside the station perimeter and one of the blocks at the station had been switched off.”
A video from the scene also appears to show that a Ukrainian soldier actually shot “what appears to be an RPG,” according to Clint Ehrlich.
This is video of what appears to be an RPG being fired from inside the #Zaporizhzhya plant.
Russian forces claim these RPG attacks are what forced them to return fire.
Their explanation seems plausible from the video. https://t.co/UqyxXu9Lj3

He also pointed out that it was be pretty ludicrous for Russia to attack a nuclear plant when they are providing energy for the areas they occupy.
Russian forces in Ukraine are actively working to maintain services like water & electricity in the areas they occupy.
That doesn't make their invasion ethical.
But it puts the lie to claims they tried to sabotage a nuclear reactor.
— Clint Ehrlich (@ClintEhrlich) March 4, 2022
“Zelensky is a serial liar and a con man who is doing everything in his power to drag this war on and get as many Ukrainian civilians killed for propaganda purposes to try justify Western intervention,” remarked Chris Menahan.
The Ukrainian President doesn’t exactly have good form, having lied about what happened on Snake Island, as well as the ‘attack’ on a Holocaust memorial that never happened.
As we highlight in the video below, with there being so many massive war outrages that turn out to be completely false, it’s no longer possible to trust anyone.
You’d think this would be a time where ‘fact checkers’ would be needed more than ever, but they seem to have gone AWOL.

Ukrainian Official Admits She Lied About Russians Committing Mass Rape to Convince Countries to Send More Weapons
And it worked.

Published

The top Ukrainian official who was fired for spreading misinformation has admitted that she lied about Russians committing mass rape in order to convince western countries to send more weapons to Ukraine.
Lyudmila Denisova, the former Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, was removed from her position following a vote of no confidence in the Ukrainian parliament which passed by a margin of 234-to-9.
Parliament member Pavlo Frolov specifically accused Denisova of pushing misinformation that “only harmed Ukraine” in relation to “the numerous details of ‘unnatural sexual offenses’ and child sexual abuses in the occupied territories, which were unsupported by evidence.”
In an interview published by a Ukrainian news outlet, Denisova admitted that her falsehoods had achieved their intended goal.
“When, for example, I spoke in the Italian parliament at the Committee on International Affairs, I heard and saw such fatigue from Ukraine, you know? I talked about terrible things in order to somehow push them to make the decisions that Ukraine and the Ukrainian people need,” she said.
Denisova noted that Italy’s Five Star Movement was originally “against the provision of weapons to us, but after [her] speech, one of the party leaders… said that they will support [us], including by the provision of weapons.”
Despite the fact that her claims about mass rape were false, they were repeatedly amplified by legacy media outlets like CNN and the Washington Post.
“The media was quick to put this woman’s BS claims out but couldn’t care less about correcting the record,” writes Chris Menahan.
Indeed, there have been innumerable outright hoaxes and falsehoods throughout the war where so-called ‘fact checkers’ have been noticeable by their absence.
These include radiation leaks at besieged nuclear plants which turned out not to have occurred, the media’s complete misinformation about what happened on Snake Island, the ‘Ghost of Kiev Hoax, as well as the ‘attack’ on a Holocaust memorial that never happened.

Kremlin Responds to Claims Putin is Terminally Ill
Dubious claims have been making the rounds in western media for weeks.

Published
4 weeks agoon
31 May, 2022
Russia has responded to claims that keep appearing in western media outlets, including those made by ‘peegate’ dossier author Christopher Steele, that Vladimir Putin is dying of a terminal illness.
Lurid assertions about Putin’s health appear to be part of a black propaganda campaign to deflate the ‘masculine’ image Putin tries to portray, given that they appear to be backed by no actual evidence whatsoever.
Indeed, the much vaunted ‘fact-checkers’ seem to be AWOL on this one.
The claims, which are almost always made by anonymous intelligence officials, include;
– Putin has Parkinson’s disease.
– Putin has dementia.
– Putin has blood cancer.
– Putin is suffering from “chemo brain”, a cognitive impairment caused by cancer treatment.
– Putin recently underwent major surgery.
– Putin is taking steroids to hide his symptoms.
– Putin is “constantly” being followed around by doctors.
– Putin is fooling the word by using “pre-recorded appearances.”
– Putin is using “body doubles” and “actors” to fulfil his public appearances.
– Putin’s health woes have weakened his grip on power, which is now tenuous.
– Putin may even be dead already but that it won’t be admitted for “months” to avoid a Kremlin coup.
Putin may 'already be DEAD with body double taking his place', MI6 chiefs say https://t.co/vuB2Gc7aGJ
— The Sun (@TheSun_NI) May 29, 2022
Of course, no one knows the true state of Putin’s health because NATO-aligned spies and corporate media outlets will always seek to play up the most dire speculation in an effort to undermine the Russian president.
One insight into the veracity of such reports is that the claims are being amplified by British spy Christopher Steele, who infamously authored the dubious Trump dossier which has been roundly debunked.
The report, which was funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign in an effort to get dirt on Trump, ludicrously claimed that Trump had visited Moscow to have women urinate on him.
“It was later revealed that Trump did not go to Russia when Steele claimed he did, and that Steele’s primary source for the document was based in the United States, not Russia. That source later personally debunked the “pee tape” allegation while speaking to the FBI,” writes Tom Pappert.
Even the New York Times was forced to acknowledge that Steele’s work has been “discredited,” so his claims on Putin’s health should be taken with a grain of salt.
Russia has now officially responded to the claims in the form of a statement made by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who stressed that Putin makes daily appearances in public.
“You can see him on TV screens, read, and listen to his speeches. I don’t think that a sane person can suspect any signs of an illness or ailment in this man,” said Lavrov.
“I’ll leave it on the conscience of those who disseminate such rumors despite daily opportunities for everyone to see how he and others look like,” he added.

Sky News Interview Cut Short After Mention of Zelensky Posting Soldier With SS Insignia
Well, this is awkward.

A Sky News interview with Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy was cut short after mention was made of President Zelensky posting an image of a soldier wearing SS insignia.
Zelensky posted his Victory Day statement along with a collection of images of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.
However, after it was revealed that one of the Ukrainian soldiers was wearing a symbol of the Totenkopf division of the SS, the post was hastily deleted.
So, President Zelensky congratulates Ukraine on V-day over Nazism featuring a soldier who wears "Totenkopf"("dead head"), a symbol of the elite [Nazi] division of Waffen-SS during WWII.
After complaints, the press service replaced the photo but the original was there for 30+ min.. pic.twitter.com/JZnEBCvvd5— Maxim A. Suchkov (@m_suchkov) May 9, 2022
During the interview, Polyanskiy made reference to the controversy, but was quickly cut off after bringing it up.
“Do you know what it is? It’s an emblem of a German SS division in the Second World War. So he published on the Victory Day an emblem of a fighter of Right Sector [banned in Russia] with this emblem, saying that this is a symbol of [the] fight against Nazism as he sees it,” Polyanskiy said.
“This was deleted after half an hour but, of course, we have a copy of this… It means that [the] UK now is covering Ukrainian authorities, which display Nazi symbols during the Victory Day,” he added.

The host of the show seemed eager to prevent Polyanskiy from elaborating any further.
“And there you have it, the famous freedom of speech in the West,” Polyanskiy subsequently joked on Telegram.
“Now they think 100 times before inviting Russian diplomats on live broadcast,” he concluded.
Yes, they may be Nazis, but they’re our Nazis!
