LA Times Columnist Says Mocking Anti-Vaxxers Deaths is “Necessary”

Original article called for ‘dancing on the graves of anti-vaxxers’.

The Los Angeles Times published an article by columnist Michael Hiltzik which says mocking the deaths of anti-vaxxers is “necessary”.

Yes, really.

As Chris Menahan notes, the URL of the original article suggests the first headline was even worse and that it was subsequently changed by an editor.

The first incarnation was called ‘Why Shouldn’t We Dance On The Graves of Anti-Vaxxers?’

Lovely.

The headline was changed to ‘Mocking anti-vaxxers’ deaths is ghoulish, yes — but necessary’.

Its final incarnation is now published as ‘Mocking anti-vaxxers’ COVID deaths is ghoulish, yes — but may be necessary’.

The constant watering down of the headline clearly suggests the newspaper was trying to minimize the inevitable backlash that would ensue.

The bulk of the piece focuses on mocking the death of conservative activist Kelly Ernby, who campaigned against mandatory COVID vaccines for children as a condition of going to school, but subsequently died from “COVID complications.”

“Kelly Ernby’s friends and family ask us to remember her for her career as a public servant and as a devoted spouse and mother. But let’s not mince words: Her campaigns against public health measures negated whatever good she may have done in her other endeavors,” writes Hiltzik.

“The policies Ernby advocated may well have contributed to the spread of COVID and to the damaging of the public health infrastructure in her own community. Even before this pandemic, she spoke out for measures that would threaten California schoolchildren with exposure to deadly childhood diseases. There were no scientific or medical grounds for her opposition to mandates; there was only political ideology.”

The columnist goes on to assert that the media should shine a spotlight on the deaths of people who ask questions about COVID vaccines and other lockdown measures, as if they don’t relentlessly do that anyway.

“But mockery is not necessarily the wrong reaction to those who publicly mocked anti-COVID measures and encouraged others to follow suit, before they perished of the disease the dangers of which they belittled,” he adds.

Imagine if people who campaigned against mandatory vaccinations mocked the deaths of people who died from vaccine side-effects?

They’d be treated as monsters by the media, as should Michael Hiltzik for his disgusting diatribe.

Businesses in Wales Demand Vaccine Passport Exemptions After Government Fails to Prove They Work

“Unbelievable” response to FOIA request shows restrictions aren’t justified.

Businesses in Wales are demanding vaccine passport exemptions after the government failed to provide any evidence that the scheme prevents the spread of COVID-19.

COVID passes were introduced in Wales in October and applied to nightclubs, as well as indoor non-seated events for more than 500 people and outdoor events of more than 4,000 people.

In response to the Omicron outbreak, in December pubs were also restricted to the “rule of six” and table service only, while all nightclubs were ordered to close.

Despite restrictions supposedly being lifted later this week, nightclubs, cinemas and theaters will still be forced to demand COVID passports.

A Freedom of Information Act request was sent to the Welsh government asking for “any and all data that Welsh Government have used to develop the restrictions announced on 16th and 17th December 2021.”

“This should include but not be limited to: a. Statistical information regarding numbers of Covid cases developed from nightclubs b. Statistical information surrounding rates of transmission from businesses to be impacted by the one way system rule. c. Minutes of the meeting and all this in attendance held on 16th December by Welsh Government regarding the restrictions,” stated the FOIA request.

The government responded to to first two questions by stating, “This information is not available. There is no guarantee about where someone caught Covid-19, therefore there is no data on cases caught in specific locations.”

In other words, despite imposing COVID passports on nightclubs and numerous other venues, the government has no information on whether they work at all.

Publican Jon Bassett told Wales Online the response to the FOIA request was “unbelievable” and clearly shows that the restrictions aren’t justified.

“My WhatsApp group with other licensees is going crazy since this has gone into the public domain,” said Mr Bassett.

“I would have thought there would have to be more evidence for them to do it. I just don’t get it,” he added.

“I think there is a lot of anger because it’s been a dreadful two months. The concern we’ve got now is if there’s another variant come December this year and it happens again. I just fear we’re in a loop.”

The UK government’s own report into vaccine passports also found that the scheme not only failed to prevent the spread of the virus, it could actually worsen the situation.

England went ahead anyway and introduced vaccine passports for nightclubs in December, although those rules are set to expire later this week.

As we previously highlighted, COVID passports were introduced in Wales after a dodgy vote that the government won because a Conservative MP who was set to vote against the measure couldn’t log in to a Zoom call.

Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford also stupidly claimed that Omicron was just as severe as Delta, while also boasting about how stricter lockdown measures had put Wales in a better place than England, despite Wales recording higher case numbers.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Backs Novak Djokovic Over Vaccine Row

Says sportsmen shouldn’t be forced to take jab to compete.

Soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has backed world’s number 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic over the vaccine row that saw Djokovic kicked out of Australia.

The 20 time grand slam winning Serbian was deported earlier this month and prevented from defending his Australian Open title despite a judge initially ruling that the government was wrong to try to block him entering the country.

Swedish international Ibrahimovic, who is vaccinated himself, came out in defense of his friend, speaking out against compulsory vaccine mandates during an interview with national broadcaster SVT.

“The person who takes the vaccine does so because they believe that it is effective against the disease. I got vaccinated because I think it protects me, not to be able to play football. These are two different things,” Ibrahimovic said.

“You should not be forced to get vaccinated to be able to go to work,” the 40-year-old striker added. “Getting vaccinated for health reasons is not the same as getting vaccinated for a tennis tournament.”

Ibrahimovic is a prominent figure given that he is one of the most prolific goal-scorers of his generation and has been able to stay at the top of his game beyond the usual retirement age for soccer players.

Known simply to his legions of adoring fans as ‘Zlatan’, the AC Milan forward previously slammed LeBron James for using his platform to create political division in society.

Following Djokovic’s ejection from the Australian Open, other majors such as the French Open and Wimbledon have indicated they could also punish unvaccinated players by banning them from competing.

“Anti-Vax” Olympic Gold Medallist Dies of COVID (But He Was Vaccinated)

Sky News publishes massively misleading headline.

on

British broadcaster Sky News breathlessly reported on the COVID death of “anti-vax” Olympic gold medallist Szilveszter Csollany, before admitting later in the article that he was vaccinated.

Well, this is awkward.

The 51-year-old Hungarian, who was the 2000 Sydney Olympics rings champion, had been hospitalised since December with the illness, a stay which included weeks on a ventilator.

Citing Hungarian media outlet Blikk, Sky News reported that Csollany had “expressed anti-vaccination views on social media.”

This led the news outlet to headline the article ‘Anti-vax’ Olympic gold medallist dies of COVID’, clearly suggesting that the athlete had decided not to get the vaccine and that this contributed to his death.

However, in the 3rd paragraph of the story, it is acknowledged that “the six-time World Championship medallist had been vaccinated to allow him to continue to work as a gymnastics coach.”

Sky News decided not to include this pretty crucial fact in either the headline or on their front page, which merely stated ‘anti-vax Olympic gold medalist dies of coronavirus’, again suggesting his failure to get vaccinated was a factor in his death.

null

This is by no means the first time that Sky News, which has vehemently lobbied for lockdown restrictions in its coverage since the start of the pandemic, has published wildly misleading claims.

As we previously highlighted, the broadcaster claimed that the notion of climate lockdowns was a fake news conspiracy theory invented by COVID-19 deniers even as India was simultaneously announcing a climate lockdown.

Back in November, Sky News reported that COVID hospitalizations were “14 times higher” than at the same time the previous year, despite this being demonstrably false.
