Monty Python Comedian John Cleese Cancels Himself “Before Someone Else Does”
“I am blacklisting myself”

Monty Python comedian John Cleese has pulled out of a scheduled speech at Cambridge University, announcing that he is canceling himself “before someone else does.”
Cleese, who ironically was scheduled to bring along a film crew as part of a documentary on cancel culture called “Cancel Me,” didn’t even make it that far after the ‘debating society’ at the University banned another guest, art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon, for impersonating Adolf Hitler.
Given that Cleese has impersonated Hitler, and Nazis multiple times as part of comedy sketches and shows, he took the decision to ‘blacklist’ himself as a protest against the University’s woke move.
I was looking forward to talking to students at the Cambridge Union this Friday, but I hear that someone there has been blacklisted for doing an

impersonation of Hitler
I regret that I did the same on a Monty Python show, so I am blacklisting myself before someone else does
Cleese added that he would be happy to do the talk somewhere else “where woke rules do not apply” and where he doesn’t have to “walk on eggshells”:
I apologise to anyone at Cambridge who was hoping to talk with me, but perhaps some of you can find a venue where woke rules do not apply
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 10, 2021
Andrew Graham Dixon did a fairly lousy impersonation of an anti-intellectual autocrat, trying to make a point about the dangerous quest for cultural purity. The Cambridge Union on the other hand appears to have perfected it and demonstrated the point flawlessly. Bravo?

If you're in Cambridge, why don't you hire a sizeable room and invite people on condition that I don't have to walk on eggshells https://t.co/qhO8viHebW
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 11, 2021
The comedian then responded to those who continued to be offended:
Exactly what I advocate
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 11, 2021
If you are a morally superior, hypersensitive, narcissistic Puritan, uninterested in any opinions other than your own, I actively encourage you to stay away https://t.co/bwq7KJ2poP
May I ask what is the right term ?
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 11, 2021
" In defiance of its own rules about free speech ", perhaps ? https://t.co/L7wxMJWCB8
Good question. I've been trying to find out, but there seem to be many versions of it
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 11, 2021
And one poll says 58% of the British don't know either
I wonder if you can point me at someone who speaks definitively about it
Right now I say only that it may be the opposite of Stoicism https://t.co/fyEfa3UynY
I suppose that, as a Python who has offended many people over the last 50 years, I've noticed that causing offence hasn't done much harm
— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) November 11, 2021
And as you suggest, the proportion of people offended is usually very small https://t.co/zzAhilhswU
Here’s an example of Cleese doing Hitler on Monty Python:
Cleese has long been outspoken against cancel culture, previously slamming permanently offended woke people, insisting that they have no sense of humour and are contributing to the death of comedy.
The comedian also made headlines earlier this year by tweeting out an ‘apology’ for using ‘white English people’ as the butt of the joke in past sketches, a reaction to The Simpsons actor Hank Azaria apologising for voicing an Indian character.
Not wishing to be left behind by Hank Azaria, I would like to apologise on behalf on Monty Python for all the many sketches we did making fun of white English people

Leftist Hack Claims That If Any White Person Is Using The Word ‘Woke’, It’s A “Racial Slur”
The new narrative on cancel culture is that, like everything else, it’s racist

A writer with Slate has declared that the word ‘woke’ when used by a white person should be treated as a racial slur because it was “shoplifted” from the “black community”.
It’s the latest narrative in the debate over cancel culture.
It is no longer credible to declare that cancel culture doesn’t exist, and so the left has reverted to what it knows best, baseless accusations of racism and bigotry.
Along with a tacit threat, Slate hack Joel Anderson tweeted “If you’re not black and started using ‘woke’ pejoratively sometime post-2018 or so (or worse, don’t know anything about the earlier iteration of the term), I think it’s fair to consider it a racial slur.”
And it doesn't mean I’m gonna do anything to you, or that anyone else will. But it doesn’t mean I won’t either.
— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) November 8, 2021
Anderson also posted a picture of white protesters taken in Charlottesville in 2017, with the comment “all these hit dogs.”
Anderson continued, “who am I to stop them from using a term they shoplifted from the black community? All I’m saying is, like with the other words, I get to decide my response.”
I know this is hard because a certain group of folks feel entitled to say whatever they want to you whenever they want. And who am I to stop them from using a term they shoplifted from the black community? All I’m saying is, like with the other words, I get to decide my response
— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) November 8, 2021
As noted by The Federalist, Anderson’s assertion was picked up on and re-tweeted by other leftist media figures at the Washington Post, NBC News, MSNBC News, ESPN and Vox.
It’s a tactic Anderson has tried before:
“woke mob” and “young wokes” for when you’re too worried about the skill of your hands to say “nigger."
— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) July 22, 2020
no offense if you use the term, but when i see “woke” now i immediately suspect it’s being invoked in service of racism. blame twitter, if you must. actually, nah. take offense.
— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) February 26, 2019
those last couple of RTs are, in their way, what being “woke” was supposed to mean before people who don’t know any black people (or those who just resent them) co-opted the term: a series of revelations of all the ways in which racism shapes your life behind the scenes.
— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) May 30, 2021
To these paranoid, segregational and isolationist people, absolutely everything anyone says that doesn’t jive with their delusional world view is ‘racist’, with a major part of that ‘racism’ involving appropriation of culture, words and terms and repurposing them for bigoted purposes.

South African Cricket Players Ordered to ‘Take a Knee’ Before T20 World Cup
Despite it being against some players’ religious beliefs.

South African cricket players have been ordered to ‘take a knee’ before their team’s T20 World Cup matches despite some of the players complaining that it violates their religious beliefs.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) issued the directive last night after some of the players refused to perform the pro-BLM virtue signaling gesture before a match against Australia.
“South African players of color knelt and raised a fist, while fast bowler Anrich Nortje and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen put their hands behind their backs and maintained a distance from their playing cohort,” reports Breitbart.
The CSA announced it had “unanimously agreed to issue a directive requiring all Proteas players to adopt a consistent and united stance against racism by “taking the knee” prior to the start of their remaining World Cup matches.”
🇿🇦 Cricket South Africa believes success both on the field and beyond the boundary will be guaranteed if all South Africans stand united to build a new innings based on the pillars of inclusivity, access and excellence.

The body said it was enforcing the order due to “the lack of support for the initiative” for the “BLM initiative,” especially given “South Africa’s history.”
That phrasing is interesting given controversy over professional football players in England taking the knee, with advocates claiming it had nothing to do with the Black Lives Matter organization and was merely a non-political stand against racism.
The Courier-Mail reported that some South African players refused to ‘take a knee’ because the gesture was “against their religious beliefs” and that “a good Christian man only takes a knee for two people – his wife and his God.”
The gesture was widely adopted by professional sports teams in the aftermath of last year’s deadly riots following the police killing of George Floyd.
Meanwhile, spectators attending the T20 tournament were made to isolate in what some described as “sheep pens” to safeguard against the spread of COVID.
