The black prison-like fencing that was a mainstay around Capitol Hill during the first half of the year has gone back up ahead of a protest scheduled this weekend, which President Trump has warned is a “setup”.

The fencing has been re-erected in response to the “Justice for J6” rally planned for Saturday at the US Capitol building, which is focused on the 600 defendants being detained for being part of the January 6th incident.

Video of the fencing also reveals that a motion-tracking watchtower has been put into place, presumably fitted with face recognition cameras and whatever other surveillance equipment is at hand to deploy on Americans practising their right to freedom of speech.

Capitol Police have said the fencing will come down again straight away, if the protest is carried out peacefully.

A statement also noted that “The USCP has asked the Department of Defense for the ability to receive National Guard support should the need arise on September 18.”

As The Hill contributor Don Wolfensberger notes, “The new protective barrier, even if only temporary, as officials insist, still reinforces public perceptions that Congress is once again walling itself off as fortress on a Hill, above and apart from the people it purports to represent.”

He continues, “And that perception only further exacerbates the widening gulf of distrust between the government and the governed. Will a new fence be re-installed every time a planned rally threatens potential violence against Congress?”

Meanwhile, President Trump has warned that the event on Saturday could be used as a “setup”.

In an interview with The Federalist, Trump said “On Saturday, that’s a setup,” adding “If people don’t show up they’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s a lack of spirit.’ And if people do show up they’ll be harassed.”

In a further statement, Trump noted “Our hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest concerning the Rigged Presidential Election.”

He added that “in addition to everything else, it has proven conclusively that we are a two-tiered system of justice. In the end, however, JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!”

Tucker Carlson responded to the news that General Milley went behind President Trump’s back and promised to warn China ahead of any military operations, by labelling it “one of the scariest things that has ever happened in this country.”

“Let that sink in,” Carlson urged, quoting Milley allegedly saying to China’s top military commander, General Li Zuocheng “If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”

Carlson continued “So according to this account, our country’s top defense officials secretly colluded with our chief military rival to undercut the elected President of the United States.”

“That’s treason. It is a crime. And apparently, Mark Milley is not the only person who was implicated in this crime. Others knew it was happening,” Carlson continued.

“Our intelligence agencies almost certainly heard Mark Milley’s call. If they can read emails from a cable news show on Fox, what are the chances they were aware that the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff was speaking to a senior Chinese general and what they were saying,” Carlson said, referring to previous allegations that the U.S. intelligence spied on his communications.

Carlson concluded, “You often hear people say they’re worried about authoritarianism coming to America, well it’s here. That’s what this is. It’s authoritarian government. It’s government by unelected unaccountable leaders who are willing to use violence to preserve their power.”

Appearing on Tucker Carlson’s show, Journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out how George W. Bush has gone from being roundly reviled by the left to being weirdly held up as some kind of icon as soon as the he began criticising President Trump and his supporters.

“It’s worth remembering how liberals used to be overflowing with so much hatred and contempt for George Bush,” Greenwald noted, adding “They frequently compared him to Adolf Hitler and claimed his family was crucial to the rise of the Nazi party, claimed (something I agree with) that he is a war criminal.”

Greenwald continued, “they claimed he was so filled with racism that he purposefully allowed New Orleans to drown because so many black people lived there.”

Greenwald also pointed out that “every liberal I know believes George Bush stole at least one election, and maybe even two.”

“Yet suddenly as he began lightly criticising Trump, they began saying things like ‘you know what, I didn’t agree with Bush all the time, but I never questioned his character and his values and his patriotism,” Greenwald urged.

He continued, “this weekend it turned into this love-fest. I mean they dripped with effusive praise for him because of what he said, essentially that the 9/11 attacks are the same as the three hour riot on January 6th, and more importantly that the people who did 9/11, Al Qaeda, are similar or identical to ‘the same foul spirit’ as he put it, Trump supporters essentially.”

“A domestic war on terror against your fellow citizens is music to the ears of American liberals because they want nothing more than treating their political adversaries, like the Bush administration treated Al Qaeda,” Greenwald asserted.

“It is a priority of the political class to launch a domestic war on terror. You can go back to before January 6th, to November 2020 and see articles in the Wall Street Journal in which Joe Biden was saying ‘my top priority once I’m elected as president will be to combat domestic extremism,” the journalist added.

Greenwald further urged that “it’s demented to compare 9/11 and January 6th, but it is so central to the agenda of the security state, to the Democratic Party, to essentially initiate a surveillance regime, a detention regime against people on the right who are against the establishment.”
