A report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies warns that the 2021 Afghan refugee crisis could make the 2015 refugee crisis look like a “geopolitical walk in the park” in comparison.
Humanitarian workers are warning of up to 3 million Afghan refugees could try to find their way to Europe following the Taliban’s takeover of the country.
CSIS Senior Fellow Erol Yayboke echoes those figures, projecting that the number of displaced Afghans, which currently stands at around 2.6 million worldwide, could easily double over the next two years alone.
“Unless the U.S. and its partners sufficiently respond to this next big refugee crisis, millions of displaced Afghans in 2021 could make the 2015 migration crisis seem like a geopolitical walk in the park,” states the report.
Noting that the 2015 migrant crisis saw over a million asylum seekers reach Europe from numerous different countries in the Middle East and North Africa, Yayboke warns that the number of Afghans alone heading west this time around “could eclipse even these peak figures.”
Where the “refugees,” most of whom are actually economic migrants, will end up, remains the larger question given that there is no appetite to accept them either in Europe or in neighboring Middle Eastern countries.
According to one diplomat in Kabul, despite European countries fortifying their borders since 2015, “not even tanks” can stop the coming influx if the numbers are large enough.
When asked whether they would prefer to settle in nearer countries with similar cultures, such as Saudi Arabia, the migrants made it clear that they would prefer to make the much longer journey to European welfare havens such as Germany.
Despite the massive risks posed by allowing in untold numbers of improperly vetted people from an unstable region of the world, the report calls on the United States to throw open its borders anyway.
“Some 4.5 million Vietnamese people were displaced after the fall of Saigon in 1975, many of whom settled in the U.S. and now own businesses, hold public office, and serve as the diasporic backbones of the communities that welcomed them decades ago,” writes Yayboke. “The same can be true of Afghans, if only the United States could see how today’s challenge could be tomorrow’s opportunity.”
As we document in the video below, the 2015 refugee influx into Europe led to soaring violent crime, mass sexual assaults and innumerable mass casualty terror attacks.
Quite how any sane person would want to see a repeat of that is beyond comprehension.

Twitter/X owner Elon Musk announced Tuesday that he is going to visit the Southern Border later this week after speaking with Republican Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales.
Musk tweeted that he will visit Eagle Pass, where unprecedented numbers of illegal immigrants have crossed into the U.S. in recent days.
Musk noted that Gonzales told him “it is a serious issue,” and that “they are being overwhelmed.”
I spoke with Rep Tony Gonzales tonight – he confirmed that it is a serious issue.
They are being overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers – just hit an all-time high and still growing!
Am going to visit Eagle Pass later this week to see what’s going on for myself.
According to reports, up to 11,000 illegals are crossing at Eagle Pass every day now.
The new head of the Border Patrol warned earlier this week that the agency cannot protect Americans because they are being forced to process illegal immigrants:

“In terms of flow and the threats that we’re seeing with Fentanyl and with the criminal organizations that are our adversary, it’s about as bad as I’ve ever seen it”

Jason Owens, the new head of the Border Patrol has warned that the agency is unable to protect Americans from “hardened criminals” smuggling in weapons, drugs and gang members because it is so overwhelmed with processing thousands of illegal immigrants every day.
Appearing on ABC News, Owens stated that the Border Patrol cannot lawfully send back people illegally trying to enter the country over the Southern border, and has to “enforce the laws that are on the books.”
“In terms of flow and the threats that we’re seeing with Fentanyl and with the criminal organizations that are our adversary, it’s about as bad as I’ve ever seen it,” Owens urged.
He continued, “This isn’t sustainable. This is up-and-down the system, everybody is overwhelmed. Even the government of Mexico, which have been great partners for us, the U.S. Border Patrol, a lot of times our facilities are already over capacity.”
House Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner blasted the Biden administration Sunday, charging that they are “encouraging” unsustainable surges at the border.
The GOP Rep. said that “the manner in which they have — have provided assistance to migrants, not really communicating that our borders should be closed. Instead, have encouraging an open border policy.”
“You know, this is a national security and an economic security threat. On national security, we’ve seen individuals on the terrorist watch list be apprehended. We certainly see fentanyl and other drugs coming across the border. On economic security, you even have the mayor of New York saying that it’s destroying his city,” Turner added.
He added that “the Biden administration just in the last 10 days took action to give 200,000 Venezuelans temporary protective status, which includes that they cannot be deported and work privileges.”
“If we had the right policies, they wouldn’t be here. By providing them these — the open assistance, what you’re seeing is an encouragement for others to come,” he further asserted.

Less than a quarter of American voters approve of Biden’s handling of the border, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.
