Rotten Apple: ‘New York as Dead as it Was a Year Ago’

Is it ever coming back?

Unlike other areas of the country like Texas and Florida, New York appears to be trapped in a permanent state of lockdown malaise, with one observer noting how empty streets suggest the city is “seemingly as dead as it was a year ago.”

Reason host Nick Gillespie tweeted a video of morning rush hour traffic on The Bowery, a street located in a normally busy neighborhood in Manhattan.

Suffice to say, it’s not that busy.

“New York is seemingly as dead as it was a year ago,” commented Gillespie.

Respondents blamed harsh coronavirus lockdown restrictions for the city’s decline.

“Everyone moved to Florida,” remarked one.

“It’s absolutely tragic what these morons have done to my beautiful city. It’s going to take years to recover from this,” commented another.

A survey conducted in September 2020 found that two in five New Yorkers wanted to leave the city, with the reasons cited being crime and public safety as well as the anemic post-COVID economic recovery.

Removal trucks became a common sight on the streets, with 2020 showing a 44% increase in home sales in the suburbs compared to the same time period in 2019 as people flee for bigger homes in safer areas.

Former hedge fund manager and entrepreneur James Altucher previously warned that the city was on its knees and that there were no signs of New York’s political leadership offering a way out of the malaise.

“We have something like 30 to 50 per cent of the restaurants in New York City are probably already out of business and they’re not coming back,” he pointed out.

Regular Black Lives Matter riots that include demonstrators telling white people to “get the fuck out of New York” also can’t be helping.

The trend of people fleeing big cities, largely as a result of the pandemic but also for other reasons, is mirrored in London, where 700,000 people left the English capital in 2020.

Rand Paul: Democrats “Are Going To Go After Ordinary People” With Massive Spending Bill

“It is a lie that they are only going after rich people.”

In an appearance on Fox News Monday, Senator Rand Paul warned that Democrats are lying about their massive social spending bill and that it will significantly affect untold numbers of ‘ordinary’ Americans.

“The numbers game is fake accounting,” Paul warned, adding “They aren’t really whittling down what they are going to spend it on. They are just whittling down how long they are going to count the accounting period to be.”

“So, if it costs $5 trillion over 5 years and they only count $1 trillion, then that is $1 trillion. But that doesn’t make the programs small. The programs are still enormous and over time are going to add up to trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars,” the Senator urged.

Paul continued, “The other lie is that this won’t affect anyone over $400,000.”

“If you look at the sifting through our bank accounts and either at $600 level or even a higher dollar level when the IRS goes through all of their bank accounts; All that comes in, all that comes out. 75% of that money is on people making less than $100,000 per year,” Paul explained.

He concluded, “So, it is a lie that they are only going after rich people. They are going to go after ordinary people and they will squeeze and squeeze more money out of you if they possibly can.”

“The lie that this is only about going after rich people is frankly not true and they will go after a lot of ordinary people when this thing gets passed,” Paul emphasised.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed this weekend that a rising cost of living for everyday Americans is good, because it means more people are buying stuff:

CNN Uses Creepy, Dystopian “Before Times” Rhetoric to Justify Empty Shelves

“They are laying narrative groundwork to prepare you for a world of shortages, scarcity, and incompetence.”

Questions are being asked of CNN after the network used the creepy dystopian phrase “Before Times” to describe a time pre-COVID when grocery shelves weren’t empty.

The phrase appears in a report about how grocery shelves “are not going back to normal this year” as a result of labor shortages and transportation restrictions.

“If you hoped grocery stores this fall and winter would look like they did in the Before Times, with limitless options stretching out before you in the snack, drink, candy and frozen foods aisles, get ready for some disappointing news,” states the article.

Note how “Before Times” is emphasized by its seemingly otherwise unnecessary capitalization.

The dystopian language appears to be another way of socially engineering Americans to accept “the new normal,” which will include rolling lockdowns, energy crises and food shortages.

Twitter users accused the network of weaponizing language to induce fearmongering.

“They say ‘The Before Times’ like COVID is equivalent to Jesus. Absolute lunatics,” tweeted Robby Starbuck.

“Interesting way of saying that we will have food shortages in Joe Biden’s America,” remarked Harrison Krank.

Another respondent warned that CNN would use the term to distract from the Biden administration’s incompetence and blame any problems on the pandemic.

“They are laying narrative groundwork to prepare you for a world of shortages, scarcity, and incompetence,” warned another respondent, “This isn’t an accident.”

Out of stock percentages in U.S. grocery chains have risen from 7-10% before the pandemic to as high as 18% in recent days.
