China Launches New App Allowing Citizens to Report Others For Expressing “Mistaken Opinions”

Targets dissidents who dispute country’s history or criticize ruling Communists.

China’s Communist government has launched a new app that encourages citizens to report dissidents for expressing “mistaken opinions” on the Internet.

The new platform will target anyone who criticizes the dictatorship’s ruling CCP, disputes the official version of the country’s history or engages in “misinformation.”

The new website and app was proudly unveiled by China’s Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), with authorities calling on users to play an “active role” in helping to identify “malicious people distorting facts and confusing” others.

“For a while now, some people with ulterior motives…have spread historically nihilistic false statements online, maliciously distorting, slandering and denying Party, national and military history in an attempt to confuse people’s thinking,” the announcement said.

“We hope that most internet users will play an active role in supervising society…and enthusiastically report harmful information.”

As Didi Rankovic notes, “It’s also unsurprising because it comes ahead of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party (CPP), when messages and narratives will have to be kept particularly “clean.”

China already operates an onerous social credit score system that bans people from using transportation and engaging in other basic functions of society if they commit minor infractions like jaywalking or buying too much junk food.

Given that social media mobs in the west, routinely aided by journalists, already conduct witch hunts that lead to people being socially ostracized, deplatformed and left unemployed for expressing “mistaken opinions,” are we really that better off than Chinese dissidents?

Wikipedia Co-Founder Says Online Encyclopedia is Now Largely Just “Leftist Propaganda”

Used as a tool to demonize contrarians and anyone on the right.

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has blasted the site for its slide into “leftist propaganda,” accusing it of long since abandoning impartiality and simply becoming an amplifier for mainstream news narratives.

Sanger co-founded Wikipedia with with Jimmy Wales in 2001.

During an interview with the Epoch Times, Sanger noted that the online encyclopedia began with noble intentions but is now just another tool to demonize people who challenge the consensus.

“Wikipedia made a real effort at neutrality for, I would say, its first five years or so,” said Sanger, adding, “And then … it began a long, slow slide into what I would call leftist propaganda.”

Wikipedia is run by around 125,000 volunteer editors, the vast majority of whom are leftists, with a further 1,000 administrators who enjoy special privileges to block others who go against the grain.

Sanger explained how Wikipedia now serves not just to skew information, but to viciously demonize anyone on the right or anyone deemed to be a “contrarian.”

Wikipedia “casts them as conspiracy theorists, are far right or whatever, when they and their friends and people who know them well would never describe them in that way,” Sanger said.

After banning sources such as Fox News or the Daily Mail, Wikipedia now relies almost entirely on far-left outlets and legacy media sources to determine truth.

“More recently, they’ve gotten rid of almost all conservative news sources as sources for their articles,” he said

“And so as the news media has shifted, and as the establishment, frankly, has shifted more to the left or to the left, the content of Wikipedia has followed suit.”

As we previously highlighted, a perfect example of Wikipedia’s extreme political bias was evident when the website’s editors deliberately sought to bury links between convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Clinton.

The fact that Clinton flew on Epstein’s ‘Lolita Express’ private jet at least 26 times, which was reported by the media multiple times back in 2016, disappeared from Wikipedia before it was added back in after an outcry.

Editors also sought to scrub any of Epstein’s links to Clinton while amplifying his links to Donald Trump, which were less direct and less damaging.

Russia Threatens Total Ban on YouTube After Major Channels Deleted

Foreign Ministry describes move as “an act of unprecedented information aggression.”

After YouTube deleted two huge German-language news channels operated by broadcaster RT, Russia threatened to impose a total ban on the platform.

The controversy began yesterday when the Google-owned video website removed the RT DE channel and a second channel called DFP, which had amassed a combined total of hundreds of millions of views.

Indeed, RT DE was among the top five German-language channels in YouTube’s News and Politics category, boating 600,000 subscribers.

The channels were deleted after the main platform received strikes for COVID-19 “medical misinformation” appearing in four videos, with one of the videos featuring an interview with German epidemiologist Friedrich Puerner.

Despite the fact that the strikes were due to expire on Tuesday, instead of live-streaming rights being restored to the channel, it was deleted entirely.

“We have reviewed your content and found severe or repeated violations of our Community Guidelines. Because of this, we have removed your channel from Youtube,” the platform told RT.

The Russian Foreign Ministry swiftly responded by branding the move “an act of unprecedented information aggression” and an “obvious manifestation of censorship and suppression of freedom of expression,” while suggesting that German authorities were complicit in the decision to remove the channels.

However, this was more than a stern rebuke, with Russia outright threatening to ban YouTube from the country entirely.

The country’s media regulator asserts that “for such actions, an internet resource can be designated as breaching fundamental human rights and freedoms.”

“In the event that the owner of the platform doesn’t comply with the warning, legislation allows us to take measures including completely or partially blocking access to it,” stated Roskomnadzor.

Russian authorities are also threatening to take reciprocal measures against German media based in Russia, which they accuse as having, “repeatedly shown to have interfered in our country’s internal affairs.”

RT’s editor-in-chief, Margarita Simonyan, asserts that the removal of the channels amounts to “a declaration of media war against Russia by Germany.”

Should Russia actually block YouTube, this would perhaps be the first example of where an act of censorship is met with a response that actually causes huge damage to a Silicon Valley giant.
