Swedish Health Chief Said Country Avoided Lockdown to Prevent “Pandemic Fatigue”

Sweden now has lowest death rate in Europe.

Swedish health chief Olivia Wigzell explained that her country didn’t impose the kind of draconian coronavirus lockdown seen in other European countries in order to prevent the public from developing “pandemic fatigue.”

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sweden chose to go for herd immunity by refusing to impose a hard lockdown, meaning bars, restaurants, gyms, workplaces and schools remained open and vulnerable people were told to shield while mandatory mask rules were avoided.

Despite the mainstream media predicting that this would lead to massive fatalities, Sweden has recorded under 6,000 coronavirus deaths and now has the lowest death rate in Europe.

The Scandinavian country’s GDP fared better than the rest of Europe and now large segments of the population have developed herd immunity, reducing the impact of any potential “second wave.”

Illustrating how the country is already virtually back to normal, a young woman posted a video of herself boarding a train in Stockholm showing minimal social distancing and hardly anyone wearing masks.

Now the director general of Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare reveals that one of the reasons the Swedish government chose not to impose a harsh lockdown was to prevent its population from development “pandemic fatigue.”

“We did not choose the path of a complete lockdown of society, because we had other arguments for a systematic response to a pandemic,” said Olivia Wigzell during the Pandemic 2020: Challenges, Solutions, Consequences conference, which was held in Moscow.

“We were very afraid, we feared that people would develop such a pandemic fatigue, that people would get tired of restrictions. But in Sweden, practically everyone followed the recommendations,” she added.

Sweden’s health care system was never overwhelmed, even at the height of the pandemic, and the country is now in a better position than any other country on the continent, virtually all of which continue to follow disastrous lockdown policies.

Majority of Brits Say They Will “Miss” Some or Many Aspects of Lockdown

Stockholm syndrome?

A new opinion poll in the UK finds that over half of Brits say they will miss either “some” or “many” aspects of lockdown despite the country now having been under some form of restrictions for nearly a year.

Yes, really.

The YouGov survey asked participants, “Do you think you will or will not miss any aspects of lockdown when it is over?”

9 per cent of respondents said they would miss “many” aspects of lockdown while 46 per cent said they would miss “some” aspects of lockdown – a combined total of 55 per cent.

Just 39 per cent of respondents said they won’t miss any aspects of lockdown.

Previous polls have routinely showed majority or plurality support for lockdown, with little concern for what innumerable observers have called the biggest imposition on civil liberties in British history.

One aspect that many will “miss” about lockdown is undoubtedly getting paid for doing nothing.

Under the government’s furlough scheme, those who can’t work from home have had 80 per cent of their wages covered by the state for almost a year, with that program to be extended until September despite the government saying all restrictions will be lifted by the end of June.

The prospect of having to work for their money will become a reality for some once again soon, although not for all given that the UK’s economy contracted the most in 300 years as a result of the lockdown, leading to 726,000 job losses.

Leftists Vow to Continue Wearing Masks Despite Gov. Greg Abbott Ending Statewide Mandate

“You should still be wearing masks until NOBODY needs them any more.”

Numerous Twitter users responded to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement that he would allow business to open 100% and end the statewide mask mandate by vowing to continue wearing masks indefinitely and boycott businesses that don’t enforce them.

Abbott gave a press conference yesterday during which he said all restrictions would be lifted on March 10.

“Too many Texans have been sidelined from employment opportunities,” Abbott said. “Too many small business owners have struggled to pay their bills. This must end. It is now time to open Texas 100%.”

However, numerous respondents said they would defy the lifting of the mandate by continuing to cover their faces and demanding others do the same.

Some also asserted that would continue to boycott businesses that don’t enforce mask mandates.

“Dear fellow Texans, please ignore this man. He doesn’t give a damn whether you live or die. He’s concerned with profits — not people. Continue as you were until more people are vaccinated,” asserted one respondent.

“I intend to continue wearing a mask because I am one of the MILLIONS of Texans not yet eligible for vaccination. I also plan to do what I can to NOT give my business to establishments that unmask,” added another.

“Either way I’ll still be wearing mine,” said another.

“I’m of the mind that even if you have gotten fully vaccinated, you should still be wearing masks until NOBODY needs them any more,” said another respondent.

The issue of Coronavirus lockdowns has clearly gone beyond any reasoned debate and devolved into both masks and the restrictions themselves representing a divisive wedge issue.

Many leftists would presumably be happy to continue mask mandates and crippling measures that have wrecked many small businesses forever simply as a way of virtue signaling against Republicans and conservatives.

Man Arrested, Claims He Was Strip Searched For Going For a Walk Too Far From Home

“It felt humiliating.”

A man in Wales was arrested by police for going for a walk too far from home and failing to identify himself before he claimed he was taken to the police station and subjected to a strip search.

The incident was highlighted by Welsh member of Parliament Neil McEvoy, who posted a video of the arrest to Twitter.

According to McEvoy, the couple in question were grieving the recent death of an uncle and wanted to visit the nearest beach to go for a walk.

Mr. Radek, the man seen being handcuffed in the video, says that the couple had been struggling with mental health issues as a result of lockdown.

“My family was struggling with many issues that are sourced in the constant lockdowns and homeschooling,” said Radek. “On top of that came personal family problems which we faced in the last months. They include the very serious illness of my wife’s brother and death of close relatives. We were not even able to say goodbye or go and attend the funeral in Poland.”

On returning to the car park after their walk on Talacre Beach, Radek and his wife were confronted by two female police officers who had been handing out fines.

Radek was told he had violated coronavirus regulations and was handcuffed before being subjected to a search without consent.

After refusing to give his name (which is not a legal requirement), Radek says he was taken to the police station, interrogated and shouted at.

Radek then says he was told to remove his clothes and threatened with their removal by scissors if he didn’t. He was then subjected to a humiliating strip search while being denied use of the toilet.

“It felt very humiliating and intimidating. I was explained my rights to speak to a solicitor and after about 3 hours I was released,” said Radek, who was not charged with any crime.

This is merely another example of the draconian policing now in force throughout the UK, with lockdown set to continue in some form until at least the end of June.

As we highlighted earlier, a woman in London was harassed by officers for trying to buy a coffee two miles from where she lives, while another video shows police harassing people for sitting down.
