In Sweden, Where There Was No Lockdown, COVID Cases & Deaths Have Slowed to a Trickle

Death rate lower than Spain, the UK and Italy – economy in better shape.

Confounding claims by many that its open society approach to coronavirus would spectacularly backfire, Sweden, which didn’t enforce any mandatory lockdown order, has seen its coronavirus cases and deaths slow to a trickle.

Back in March, when Sweden announced that it would adopt a different approach to much of the rest of the world by refusing to shut down its economy and instead aim for herd immunity, public health experts and media commentators were aghast at the decision, warning that the country’s hospitals would be overwhelmed with COVID victims.

Summing up the attitude towards Sweden’s approach, Danish journalist Lisbeth Davidsen said it was “like watching a horror movie.”

Fast forward five months and the horror show predicted by many has completely failed to materialize.

While fears of a “second wave” of coronavirus continue to plague other European countries that completely locked down and enforced draconian face mask rules, Sweden has recorded barely a trickle of COVID cases and deaths so far in August.

Jordan Schachtel drills into the numbers;

null

In August, Sweden has registered just one death (!) with/from the coronavirus. Yes, you read that correctly. One death so far.

For the month of July, Sweden reported 226 deaths. They’ve accounted for 805 June deaths, 1646 in May, and 2572 in April. The deaths attributed to COVID-19 went from about a 50% reduction to falling off of a cliff.

The story is the same in the hospitals. COVID-19 is hardly registering as a blip on the radar. Sweden has reported just 4 new COVID-19 patients in their ICUs in August. The month of July saw only 52 COVID-19 patients in ICUs.

It doesn’t take a math whiz to come to the conclusion that the epidemic appears to have been wrapped up in Sweden for months. It’s unclear whether this is a result of having achieved the herd immunity threshold, or if the seasonality of the virus is providing indefinite relief. But it’s become absolutely clear that Sweden’s long term pandemic strategy is working.

Asserting that “there is no evidence anywhere in the world that lockdowns or masks have *stopped* the spread of the virus,” Schachtel notes how public health experts “disregarding hundreds of years of proven science on herd immunity” who mandated lockdowns are responsible for the economic catastrophe which the world will now suffer.

As Newsweek acknowledged last week, Sweden’s COVID-19 death rate is lower than those of Spain, the UK and Italy, countries which all imposed lockdowns.

Sweden’s GDP fall of 8.6 in Q2 2020 is also significantly less severe than the 12.1 average experienced in the Eurozone, leaving the Scandinavian country in “much better shape than the rest of Europe.”

As we highlighted yesterday, the lockdowns will plunge at least a hundred million people into extreme poverty.

Add the deaths caused by this to those caused by untreated cancers and other illnesses and we’re looking at deaths caused by lockdown easily outstripping those officially attributed to coronavirus.

So what was the point of lockdown?

Man Arrested, Claims He Was Strip Searched For Going For a Walk Too Far From Home

“It felt humiliating.”

A man in Wales was arrested by police for going for a walk too far from home and failing to identify himself before he claimed he was taken to the police station and subjected to a strip search.

The incident was highlighted by Welsh member of Parliament Neil McEvoy, who posted a video of the arrest to Twitter.

According to McEvoy, the couple in question were grieving the recent death of an uncle and wanted to visit the nearest beach to go for a walk.

Mr. Radek, the man seen being handcuffed in the video, says that the couple had been struggling with mental health issues as a result of lockdown.

“My family was struggling with many issues that are sourced in the constant lockdowns and homeschooling,” said Radek. “On top of that came personal family problems which we faced in the last months. They include the very serious illness of my wife’s brother and death of close relatives. We were not even able to say goodbye or go and attend the funeral in Poland.”

On returning to the car park after their walk on Talacre Beach, Radek and his wife were confronted by two female police officers who had been handing out fines.

Radek was told he had violated coronavirus regulations and was handcuffed before being subjected to a search without consent.

After refusing to give his name (which is not a legal requirement), Radek says he was taken to the police station, interrogated and shouted at.

Radek then says he was told to remove his clothes and threatened with their removal by scissors if he didn’t. He was then subjected to a humiliating strip search while being denied use of the toilet.

“It felt very humiliating and intimidating. I was explained my rights to speak to a solicitor and after about 3 hours I was released,” said Radek, who was not charged with any crime.

This is merely another example of the draconian policing now in force throughout the UK, with lockdown set to continue in some form until at least the end of June.

As we highlighted earlier, a woman in London was harassed by officers for trying to buy a coffee two miles from where she lives, while another video shows police harassing people for sitting down.

Japan Asks China to Stop Performing Anal Swabs On Its Citizens

Tokyo has asked Beijing to stop performing COVID-19 anal swabs on its citizens after complaints that the procedure causes “psychological pain.”

“Some Japanese reported to our embassy in China that they received anal swab tests, which caused a great psychological pain,” said Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato.

China introduced the anal swab tests is several cities back in January, claiming that they are a more efficient and accurate way of detecting COVID-19.

Last week, China denied that it had forced U.S. diplomats to undergo the anal swab procedure, with China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian telling a press conference that “China has never required US diplomatic staff stationed in China to conduct anal swab tests.”

However, workers told the U.S. State Department that they had been given the test, which involves inserting a cotton swab 3-5cm into the anus and gently rotating it to collect a sample.

Much of China’s draconian response to the coronavirus pandemic, which included at one point welding people inside their own homes, has been praised by western media outlets.

Videos: Police Harass People For Walking, Sitting As Chief Admits ‘We’ve Had Enough, This Is Not Policeable’

“Police don’t want to police this”

Police in the UK were filmed harassing people on the streets and beaches again this past weekend merely for walking or sitting down.

An incident in London was captured as a woman remonstrated with cops after they attempted to stop her for getting a coffee near to where she lives.

The woman advised police that that should be concentrating on knife crime instead.

Police were patrolling London all weekend, interrogating and fining anyone they found to be sitting down for too long, or having strayed too far away from where they live:

As some people attempted to go for a walk on a beach in Northumbria, police were there to check papers and ensure they hadn’t come from out of the immediate area:

At an anti-lockdown protest in Bishops Park in London, police made arrests, including aggressively apprehending a woman who refused to ‘show her papers’:

It has become a familiar site in the UK and has been going on for months, yet even police themselves are sick of it.

“Police don’t want to police this. We have had enough of this. It is not policeable. It is not manageable,” Ken Marsh, the chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation told The Telegraph Sunday.

Marsh added that police do not want to put themselves at risk when they have to break distancing restrictions to question and arrest people over lockdown rules.

“We have to break Covid legislation every day of the week,” he said, adding “What if I turn round and say to my 32,000 members: ‘Adhere totally to Covid legislation.'”

“That is not what we want, but if we have to do that to protect my colleagues I will do that. Ministers are just not listening,” Marsh urged.
