CBP Officers at Dulles Airport Find Bag Full of Dead Birds in Passenger Baggage From China

Pet food?

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at Washington Dulles International Airport seized a bag full of dead birds from the baggage of a passenger arriving from China.

The traveler arrived on January 27 on a flight from Beijing and was destined to stay at an address in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The package contained a number of unknown dead birds that ranged from 2.5 to 3.5 inches in length.

The product was seized on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and incinerated under rules meant to prevent the spread of pathogenic avian influenza.

With the source of the coronavirus being a wild animal market in China, it was pretty stupid for the traveler to think bringing dead birds into the United States was anything other than a terrible idea.

“These dead birds are prohibited from importation to the United States as unprocessed birds pose a potentially significant disease threat to our nation’s poultry industries and more alarmingly to our citizens as potential vectors of avian influenza,” said Casey Durst, Director of Field Operations for CBP’s Baltimore Field Office. “Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists continue to exercise extraordinary vigilance every day in their fight to protect our nation’s agricultural and economic prosperity from invasive pests and animal diseases.”

Although the dead birds are marketed in China as “pet food,” given the “eclectic” culinary tastes of people from that country, who knows at this point?

Video: As Trump Honors Nurses At White House, Media Accuses Them Of Breaking Social Distancing Rules

“There’s not a single thing I can do to satisfy the media, the Democrats, and the fake news.”

As the President hosted a group of frontline nurses and healthcare workers at the White House, a reporter was beset by an overwhelming urge to show that orange man is bad.

“America’s nurses are waging a war against the invisible enemy,” Trump announced, adding ”They’re fighting on the frontlines of the battle risking their health to save lives of fellow citizens.”

Trump made the comments as he met with six nurses and the presidents of the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, to sign a proclamation in honor of National Nurses Day.

Not good enough for the media however, with one reporter immediately accusing the president of sending the wrong message to Americans for not socially distancing and not wearing masks.

“I’m trying to be nice, I’m signing a bill and you criticize us,” Trump shot back.

“Look, here’s a story. There’s not a single thing I can do to satisfy the media, the Democrats, and the fake news.” Trump asserted.

Watch:

Defending Trump, the president of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Sophia Thomas jumped in, explaining “We’re all COVID-19 free, we were all tested, we’re not socially distancing if we’re all negative, and we wouldn’t do anything to harm our president, obviously.”

Thomas further said that she had reused a mask in New Orleans for a long time, and that PPE was “sporadic” for a while where she worked, but was “manageable.”

“Sporadic for you, but not sporadic for a lot of other people,” Trump intervened.

“I agree Mr. President, absolutely,” Thomas replied.

This exchange was then reported by the media with headlines such as “Donald Trump undermines coronavirus nurse after she complained about ‘sporadic’ PPE” and “Trump rebukes nurse in White House.”

Those reports did not focus on the fact that the nurses all said they had good supplies of PPE.

One of the nurses from New Jersey commented that she cannot stand media reports about supposed  medical shortages, noting that they unnecessarily worry healthcare staff.

“It makes it so much worse for us nurses to work,” she said, adding “We’re seeing the reality of it, but to hear it on constantly … in reality, I’m not seeing it. I’m in a hot zone right now.”

“You know why? Because they’re fake news, that’s why,” Trump replied.

Former Supermarket Boss Warns of Potential Coronavirus “Food Riots,” Army Patrols

Grocery stores may have to take drastic measures.

Published

Former Tesco supply chain director Bruno Monteyne warns that a large scale outbreak of coronavirus in the UK could lead to “food riots,” requiring the army to be used to guard supermarkets.

Monteyne said that supermarkets would have to resort to drastic measures and revert to “feed the nation status” under a worse case scenario.

He also cautioned that grocery stores would have trouble stocking shelves and delivering goods if their employees decided to self-isolate.

“Yes, it will be chaotic (and expect pictures of empty shelves),” wrote Mr Monteyne, “but the industry will reduce complexity to keep the country fed.”

He said that the army may need to be drafted in to guard stores and prevent disorder.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he was “confident” food supplies would not run out and that there was “absolutely no need” to panic-buy.

Hancock also claimed that supermarkets could deliver food to coronavirus patients who had self-isolated, although this claim was immediately put in doubt by one supermarket executive, who said he was “baffled” by the suggestion.

“Matt Hancock has totally made up what he said about working with supermarkets. We haven’t heard anything from government directly,” the executive said, adding, “I’m not sure the government can guarantee all food supply in all instances.”

A source at another supermarket told the BBC that there had been no detailed planning involving government departments about “ensuring uninterrupted food supplies.”

Panic buying continued across the UK today, with supermarket shelves of goods like hand sanitizer, toilet paper and medicine.

The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has now reached 163, with two deaths.

Journalist Shocked at Lack of Coronavirus Checks After Returning to U.S. From Italy

“They didn’t ask me anything.”

Published

on

A journalist expressed her shock that there were no checks whatsoever for coronavirus after she landed at JFK airport having returned from Italy.

Italy is the worst hit country in Europe, with 3,296 people infected with coronavirus and a total death toll of 148.

Despite other countries such as Hungary imposing mandatory health screenings at airports for all arrivals from Italy, no such measures are being taken at many U.S. airports.

“I just landed at JFK after reporting on #coronavirus in Milan and Lombardy —the epicenter of Italy’s outbreak— for @vicenews,” tweeted Julia Lindau. “I walked right through US customs. They didn’t ask me where in Italy I went or if I came into contact with sick people. They didn’t ask me anything.”

It’s a similar situation in Europe, where even as the coronavirus started to spread to numerous countries last month, EU officials insisted that no border controls would be imposed.

The virus has now spread throughout the entire continent.

As we highlighted earlier, a new study predicts that under the “best case scenario,” coronavirus will kill 15 million people worldwide and shave $2.4 trillion off the global GDP.
