Someone Named This Architectural Monstrosity “Project of the Week”

Yes, really.

Published

on

A building that looks like some kind of hideously imposing Stasi spy compound has been awarded “project of the week,” underscoring again how modern architecture is relentlessly terrible.

The structure, which houses the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, Switzerland, appears from a distance to be an almost endless parade of faceless concrete slabs slammed together.

The monstrosity has absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever, no attempt at anything ornate or anything other than a cold, functional, atomizing imposition.

It also dwarfs and swallows up series of residential buildings behind it that look like they were built in the 1800’s and embody actual beauty.

However, according to Architizer, a platform that helps architects promote their work, the building warrants the title of “project of the week” and is “integrated with the industrial city fabric.”

Now watch the video below to understand how the rebellion against objective standards of beauty led to our skies being cluttered with concrete and steel eyesores like this one.

Houses Are So Unaffordable, Young People Are Now Living in Sewer Pipes

Living the dream.

Published

on

Houses are becoming so unaffordable for debt-stricken millennials, young people are now literally living in decorated sewer pipes.

Yes, really.

They’re called OPod Tube Houses and literally consist of reclaimed bits of industrial piping renovated inside with other left over pieces from building sites to make them into micro apartments.

“Constructed out of low cost and readily available 2.5m diameter concrete water pipe, the design utilizes the strong concrete structure to house a micro-living apartment for one/two persons,” states a promo for the product. “OPod Tube Houses can be stacked to become a low rise building and a modular community in a short time, and can also be located/relocated to different sites in the city.”

The pods are placed on spare bits of land and stacked on top of each other, allowing people to live their dream of being a human ant in a colony.

The sewer pipes are becoming more widespread in Hong Kong, where the cost of living is prohibitively expensive, but expect to see the trend transfer to the west very soon.

“The objective of architecture like the “sewer pipe house” isn’t to help humanity, but to humiliate and demoralize its occupants and those who live in the surrounding area,” commented one Twitter user who highlighted the issue.

As I highlight in the video below, young people are leaving college an average $30,000 in debt and getting jobs that pay an income which will never keep up with the rate of inflation.

Property ownership is freedom but the future for any generation other than boomers appears to be a lifetime of rent serfdom.

Video: Los Angelenos Can’t Tell if Paintings Were Done by Artist or 2-Year-Old

Modern art is dreadful.

Published

on

A video shows people in Los Angeles being unable to tell if paintings were created by an artist or a 2-year-old, once again underscoring how most modern art is pretentious, unskilled crap.

Will Witt, Dennis Prager and some children created several “paintings” consisting of little else but random splodges and none of the respondents could tell which ones were created by the kids.

Most of the people reacted by attempting to decipher meaning out of something completely meaningless, presumably in an effort to not appear uncultured or ignorant.

When a piece of art is so vague that literally any meaning can be imposed on it, it has no meaning at all.

Only one of the respondents, a female police officer, was honest in her response, commenting, “It just looks like scribbles.”

As I document in the video below, modern art is a racket.

Most so-called modern art, some of which is literally trash, only gets featured in galleries if it carries a left-wing social justice message.

Collectors and galleries also use obscurantism to disguise the fact that the majority of it is talentless dross and an insult to the senses.

French Senate Passes Bill Demanding Notre Dame be Rebuilt Exactly How It Was Before the Fire

Stipulation quashes Macron’s attempt at ‘modern’ re-design.

Published

on

The French Senate has passed a bill asserting that Notre-Dame must be rebuilt exactly as how it was before a fire nearly destroyed the medieval Catholic cathedral.

“The Senate has now approved the restoration bill already passed by the French parliament to allow work on the structure to be completed in time for the Paris Olympics in 2024 – but requires that the restoration be faithful to the “last known visual state” of the cathedral,” reports the Local.

The bill stands in opposition to President Macron’s announcement, made shortly after the fire, that an international competition of architects would decide the fate of the church.

This was followed by calls from numerous public figures that the rebuild should reflect France’s new modernist “diversity”.

Numerous suggestions on how to rebuild the cathedral sparked outrage, including proposals to turn its roof into a giant swimming pool or a huge greenhouse.

Architecture expert Tom Wilkinson also called for Notre Dame’s fallen spire to be replaced with an Islamic minaret as an apology to Algerian Muslims killed by French police.

As we previously reported, the French government has forbidden state-employed architects from giving interviews to the media about the Notre Dame fire, which destroyed the cathedral’s spire.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery.
