Mad as Hell: Hong Kongers Screaming Out of Apartment Blocks Every Night at 10pm

They’re not gonna take it anymore.

Hong Kongers are imitating Howard Beale’s infamous Network stunt by screaming in unison out of their apartment windows at 10pm every night.

In the 1976 movie, the ranting TV news host encouraged his viewers to stick their heads out of their windows and yell, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

Hong Kong protesters, who have embraced many western tropes, have been engaging in what they call the “Million Scream” for the past three weeks, during which they scream protest slogans from their high rise homes.

“When the clock strikes the hour, a chorus of cries can be heard reverberating across districts, with slogans popularised by pro-democracy protesters — including “five demands, not one fewer” and “Hongkongers, add oil” — echoing between high-rises,” reports the Hong Kong Free Press.

One clip shows two students from secondary schools in Kwai Tsing shouting to each other, “Liberate Hong Kong, the revolution of our times!”

Another clip shows residents in the Tai Koo Shing neighborhood shouting, “add oil” and “HK people.”

A third clip shows similar slogans being shouted out of huge apartment blocks in Fanling.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s announcement that she would withdraw the extradition bill that sparked the protests was met with scorn by the ‘screamers’ – who want all five of their protest demands met.

The stunt illustrates how Hong Kongers see their resistance to Chinese rule not just as an occasional protest activity, but as an intrinsic part of their daily lives.

“I think shouting can boost morale among protesters… [They] can feel trust and support within their community,” said 35-year-old teacher Ms Lee. “I felt very touched and supported when I first shouted and my neighbours responded to me, though I couldn’t locate them. So I continue to do it.”

Howard Beale would have been proud.

China Uses Presidential Debate To Attack America, Promote Global Authoritarianism

“America has no choice but to come to some kind of way to live peacefully with China”

Chinese state media once again attacked diversity of opinion in the US to promote the Communist state’s brand of global authoritarianism, this time reviewing the Presidential debate between Trump and Biden, and noting that Americans must be “disappointed.”

Suddenly appearing to become television critics, China’s Global Times on Wednesday described the debate as “full of personal attacks and disruptions which jeopardized the audience’s viewing experience”.

The State run outlet described the debate as “epitome of U.S. chaos,” and a “representation of the sharp division within U.S. society.”

The piece also covered “racial issues”, suggesting that they “are triggered by the fundamental divergences over US values and where the US heads within its society.”

“Such divergences are implacable. What is worse, the US leadership is intensifying the divergences, making conflicts between different races more difficult to resolve,” the article proclaimed.

Given the communist Chinese government’s fondness of internment camps for Uyghur Muslims, using them as forced slave labor based on their ethnicity, which was even mentioned in the article, it is hardly in a position to lecture America about “racial issues”.

Another state publication, The People’s Daily, got in on the act, lamenting on how bad it feels for Americans because their politicians won’t make nice with communist China.

“The US can neither achieve lasting unity by “making” foreign enemies at the expense of America’s own interests nor deceive the public for a long time by playing a dangerous game of misleading the world about its relationship with China, as truth will come to light sooner or later,” the article proclaimed.

“It should be noted that the extreme words and deeds of the US for grabbing attention and gaining private profits will harm the country’s future,” the piece also threatened.

It also claimed that America’s “political shows to deflect attention and shift the blame to other countries are not conducive to solving the increasingly serious systemic crises inside the US,” adding that “Instead, such practices have caused damage to international relations that should not be overlooked.”

The piece concluded that “short-sighted political calculations are doomed to do more harm that good to the U.S.,” further claiming that “America has no choice but to come to some kind of way to live peacefully with China.”

Commentator Gordon G. Chang noted that diversity of opinion and heated debate is actually the cornerstone of a free country, something that the Chinese government knows all too well, and therefore has almost completely eradicated:

Others joined in analysing the ridiculous claim that America’s political system is inferior to China’s:

Videos: Madrid Explodes As Police Violently Crackdown On Anti-Lockdown Protesters

Over a million residents of Spanish capital are now living under curfew

Anti-lockdown protesters in Madrid were met with violence at the hands of police this past weekend, after the local government enacted restrictions in more areas of the capital city.

Restrictions on movement, gatherings of more than six people, and 10pm curfews have been mandated, mostly targeting poorer neighbourhoods where, it is argued, sanitary conditions are worse.

In affected areas, residents are allowed to leave their homes only for work, medical or educational purposes and must carry papers proving that they have been granted permission to do so by the government.

Over a million residents of Madrid are now living under such lockdown conditions, with police having support from the Spanish army in scores of districts.

The political situation in Madrid is somewhat complex.

Many protesters in the locked down low income areas are angry with the conservative regional government, with those more on the left (some extremely leftist) adamant that the localized government lockdown represents class-based discrimination.

Meanwhile other centrist and conservative protesters are just generally against the stripping away of basic freedoms by the central Spanish government, no matter where it is focused.

Footage revealed the chaos after police stormed protesters this past weekend:

Health advisors from the leftist central government are pushing the local conservative government in Madrid to impose the restrictions on the entire inner city, which would restrict close to 3.5 million people.

So far, however, the conservative regional leader Isabel Diaz Ayuso has resisted a second total lockdown, saying that the economic impact would be too devastating.

“We’re destroying ourselves … I don’t know how many companies continue to lose jobs and opportunities every single day,” Ayuso told reporters Sunday.

Psychiatrist: Julian Assange Is ‘Preparing To Kill Himself In Prison’

Professor of neuropsychiatry testifies that Wikileaks founder is suffering from deep depression and auditory hallucinations

A disturbing testimony from a psychiatrist outlines that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is in such a bad state in prison that he should be considered at ‘high risk’ of suicide.

The Daily Mail reports that Professor Michael Kopelman testified during an extradition hearing in London that Assange has “begun making preparations to end his own life including confessing to a Catholic priest, drafting farewell letters to his family and drafting a will.”

Kopelman, emeritus professor of neuropsychiatry at King’s College London, also said that Assange told him he experienced hearing voices in his head saying “we’re coming to get you.”

“He reported auditory hallucinations, which were voices either inside or outside his head, somatic hallucinations, funny bodily experiences, these have now disappeared,” Kopelman said.

“He also has a long history of musical hallucinations, which is maybe a separate phenomenon, that got worse when he was in prison,” the psychiatrist added.

“The voices are things like, “you are dust, you are dead, we are coming to get you”. They are derogatory and persecutory,” he continued, adding “They seem to have diminished. Subsequently the musical hallucinations have also reduced, and the somatic hallucinations have disappeared.”

Kopelman even noted that Assange “reported a near-death experience and wondered if the CIA would find a way to get him or mess with his head” noting that this “may or may not” be paranoia.

Kopelman warned that “The risk of suicide arises out of clinical factors…but it is the imminence of extradition and or an actual extradition that would trigger the attempt, in my opinion.”

Assange is languishing in Belmarsh, a notoriously horrid maximum security prison housing murderers and terrorists. For much of the time since being arrested on leaving the Ecuadorian embassy, Assange has been kept in solitary confinement. He is also heavily medicated.

The wikileaks founder faces extradition to the US, where he would be charged with an 18-count indictment related to hacking computers and conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defence information.

Professor Kopelman also noted during the hearing that Assange has been depressed “certainly throughout the time I’ve been seeing him.”

“It’s fluctuated a bit, his appetite has fluctuated, he’s had persistent problems with sleep and his mood state is worst in the early hours of the morning and that’s stayed consistent,” Kopelman added.

“Mr Assange was very reluctant to talk about his suicidal ideas and plans because he feared he would be put on constant watch or isolation,” the psychiatrist further explained.

The report notes that the QC for the US government argued that Assange is ‘exaggerating’ his psychiatric symptoms and ‘self reporting’ suicidal ideas, and that Kopelman is an ‘advocate’.

“I’m a psychiatrist, you’re a lawyer. I make my diagnoses on my criteria,” the professor is said to have replied.

Assange’s QC reportedly read out a list of multiple times, at least ten, that Assange had requested the Samaritans suicide prevention helpline number between August and November 2019.

Assange has been in the prison since April of last year:
