Press F to Pay Respects

The future of social media.

Published

on

Social media giants have sided with authoritarians who want to humiliate, muzzle & destroy the lives of dissident thinkers.

That’s not taking the moral high ground, that’s being complicit in allowing hateful, intolerant bullies take over society.

Here’s what we must do next.

YouTube Bans Creator With Half a Million Subscribers After He Criticized Vox’s Carlos Maza

Black Pigeon Speaks warned independent voices were being “silenced – relentlessly, pathologically and ruthlessly” by Silicon Valley.

YouTube banned the channel of a creator with half a million subscribers the day after he released a video decrying censorship and criticizing Vox’s Carlos Maza.

Earlier this month, Maza whipped up a firestorm of outrage after accusing Steven Crowder of using gay slurs against him. This led to Crowder’s channel being demonetized and the #VoxAdPocalypse – which saw thousands of channels deleted or demonetized for ‘hate speech’.

However, the biggest example of censorship occurred today, with Black Pigeon Speaks, a channel that boasted nearly half a million subscribers, being banned by YouTube, with the company providing no reason whatsoever.

Black Pigeon Speaks, a vegan who rescues pigeons, is a moderate centrist who produced polished videos that called out the far-left and social justice warriors. His videos were always carefully worded in order to comply with YouTube’s ever tightening rules, but his entire channel was deleted anyway.

In a prescient prediction of his imminent ban, BPS released a video yesterday in which he warned that independent voices were being “silenced – relentlessly, pathologically and ruthlessly” by Silicon Valley.

In the same video, he also criticized Vox’s Carlos Maza, highlighting an article which asserted that Maza was an activist, not a journalist.

YouTube has truly jumped the shark. Everyone will be banned. And the Trump administration is doing nothing to stop it.

BBC Defends Comedian Who ‘Joked’ About Acid Attacking Right-Wing Politicians

“It’s OK when we do it.”

The BBC has defended a comedian who ‘joked’ about how she fantasized about acid attacking right-wing politicians.

As we reported earlier, Jo Brand appeared on a Radio 4 panel show called Heresy during which she said, “Certain unpleasant characters are being thrown to the fore, and they’re very, very easy to hate, and I’m kind of thinking, why bother with a milkshake when you could get some battery acid?”

The left, which normally rushes to prosecute, humiliate and ban people for offensive jokes, rushed to her defense.

This includes the BBC, which said that the jokes on the show are “deliberately provocative as the title implies” and they are “not intended to be taken seriously.”

This is the same corporation that fired radio host Danny Baker over a “racist” joke about the royal baby that wasn’t even intended to be racist.

One wonders how the BBC would react if a right-wing comic appeared on one of their shows and “joked” about acid attacking left-wing politicians.

I think the outcome may have been a little different.

“It’s OK when we do it.”

German Woman Married to African Migrant Spends 3 Hours a Day on Facebook Combating “Hate Speech”

“Being a couple here in this still very white Germany, we are exposed”.

Published

A German woman who is married to an African migrant says she is trying to make Facebook a “nicer place” by spending 3 hours a day moderating comments for “hate speech”.

“It’s 7:30 in Berlin, and Nina’s alarm clock is going off. Before getting up and making breakfast for her 13-month-old daughter, who is sleeping in the next room, she reaches for her phone,” reports BBC News.

Nina is part of “an international movement working to find and combat hate speech” because she cannot imagine her child “being grown up and reading all those things on Facebook”.

Nina, who lives in Berlin with her Ugandan husband, told the BBC, “Being a couple here in this still very white Germany, we are exposed.”

She works with a group called #IAmHere which seeks to identify “conversations dominated by extremism” and in response “post facts and alternative viewpoints to balance out hate.”

The group already has over 45,000 members and addresses “racist, misogynistic or homophobic comments” with the help of Facebook, which in turn provides the group with free advertising credits to boost their message (while banning conservatives and claiming they are not politically partisan).

Nina says the bulk of her work involves refuting “hate” directed towards “asylum seekers or climate change protests”.

Not all heroes wear capes.
